4 tips to inspire the too tired for a night workout (Part 2)

Still having issues getting into your evening sweat sesh?

Riding that struggle bus over a rocky road made of fail?

(“What? I’m compromising with my weight loss path and what I’d *rather* be doing RN.”)

Well, if the previous two tips haven’t motivated you yet, then fret not; for two more remain:

3. Tweak your time perspective for the better

I love doing this. Sometimes I’ll flip the meaning of that “only an hour” thing (mentioned in the first half of this article). I think, I only get an hour, a half hour, or a quarter’ve an hour. I only have that much left to do my best. And why do I care about doing my best? ’cause I remember how I felt last time I half azzed it and left the gym. That made me wanna quit. I wasn’t mad at my workout – but at my failure to focus or figuratively “show up” for it. Contrarily, I know that – if I do my best – I leave feeling my best. And I’m likely to come back for more.

4. Tweak your time perspective to the painless present

But what about when it’s getting massively taxing? And you feel like you’re a bath of lactic acid coursing through a moving corpse? Yes. That’s where I was two nights ago in Muay Thai. Between the HIIT training and the thai pad drills, even my hair was tired by half an hour in. This was when I had to change my brain channel, yet again, and forget what was left of class. There was no half hour. No fifteen minutes. No “just five more”. Nope. During these moments, I move 100% to the present moment. (Especially with those rapidfire punching or kicking drills that transmogrify your body into sweaty linguine by the end). This is the ultimate method for focus and success. There is no half hour left. There is no five more minutes until rest time. And there is no connection to bodily discomfort. Time – and pain – are all irrelevant information. They’re just distractions away from victory. How I feel and how many minutes remain aren’t germane to what I’m doing, so I don’t indulge them. There’s nothing but now o’ clock and the task at Venum covered hand. And we’re gonna immortalize that moment as the most magnificent one yet. And we’re gonna do it again, and again, and again… until the timer sounds.

So, my demotivated friends, try these time-bending brain hacks on for size to inspire your next sweat sesh.

Because for an awesome body, sometimes we’ve gotta send cognition to the gym a bit first.
