4 tips to inspire the too tired for a night workout (Part 1)

You know why you started your weight loss path.

Just like you know why it’s important to keep going.

But… sometimes the inspo’s simply… missing.

(That awkward moment when you rock Nike’s to just *do* your workout – but it’s doing *you* instead. Hard.)

Maybe you’ve had a long day at work. Maybe the neverending errands did you in. Mayhaps you’re just exhausted emotionally from fretting over everyone except yourself. Whatever it is, that end-game goal’s just not enough today to blaze a flame under your fanny. Or, maybe you do drag yourself to the gym – but you spend every second there resenting your treadmilling or tricep dipping or whatever you came to do. Problem with this? The more of these unmotivated eves (or mornings, for that matter) that ya have, the more likely you are to fall off the bandwagon of badazzery and back onto your couch. Why? Because you A.) don’t feel awesome, and B.) don’t feel like you’re going anywhere with it.

So, what can you do?

1. Assume your Spartan state

First, start by getting into what the great Tony Robbins calls “state”. Going to the dojo? Watch a McGregor montage, set to some rump whooping music. Heading out for a run? Watch footage of that one Olympian dude (Insane Lightning Bolt’s his legit government name, if I’m not mistaken). Dude’s so effortlessly epic, he’s sporting a smile while kicking everyone else’s butt. Watching the pros in their element is more motivating than you think – as it toggles on your mirror neurons, and prepares your body for fat blasting battle. This is an ideal Batman bish-slap to help you depart stress mode and activate your Spartan setting.

2. Re-friend your workout

Or, sometimes another issue is letting that stress enter your workout itself. Most of what we do all day, in a way, is do or die. If I don’t make it to work on time, I might lose my job. If I don’t go grocery shopping, I’ll starve. If I don’t pay my bills, a posse of po po will come drag me out like I’m flying United. These are genuine things to worry about. (Granted, not as much as I do, but they’re still fit for the concern list.) The problem? When that mindset carries over into our workout, it screws us right up. The antidote? Morphing those mountains back into the molehills that they are. Somewhere along the way, you unfriended your fitness regimen and made it the enemy instead of the friendly challenge it is. It’s not a threat. It’s your hot body building buddy. This isn’t do or die – you’re just pedaling on a bike. It isn’t forever – it’s only an hour. It’s not that serious – so calm down, and enjoy the ride, like you did the first time you tried it.
