Can You Lose Weight With Lemon Water?

Getting some resistance on your newfound fitness path?

Every time you mention your latest weight loss tip, someone tries to put it down?

(Okay, maybe *some* approaches aren’t optimal…)

Among them, may have been an attack on your beloved lemon water. See, like myself, you probably read that initiating your day with this sour concoction’s a great way to lose weight. So, you did it. And maybe you started to see results. Then, all’ve a sudden, these counter articles popped up, claiming that there’s no magic in this elixir of yours. It’s all hype. But, then, why are you making a Britney Spears level transformation for the better so suddenly? Well, probably because – while these shade launchers aren’t entirely wrong – they’re not entirely right either.

See, the lemon can quell those el-bees for three reasons. But it all depends on you.

The first way’s by replacing bad stuff. See, the idea’s that you wake up, have some lemon water and maybe do the same throughout the day. The yes-and to that, though is that you’re replacing all the naughty sugary concoction’s you’d usually sip with this new one that’s got nothingty-nothing calories in. (Okay, maybe like six.) If you’re replacing calories you usually drink with agua, then you’re creating a calorie deficit. So, no, this won’t work if you’re washing down Papa John’s with 7-11 monster gulps. (Is that a thing? I haven’t stepped into a 7-11 since nineteen-ninety never…) But, swap out that vat of adipose tissue ingredients with water, and – yes – you will lose weight. That is, if you do it consistently.

Second is the fill factor. Even if you’ve not got any lemons laying around, this is one I can suggest to everyone trying to lose weight. (Or just keep from getting fat.) As soon as you wake up, chug a bucket of water. (Okay, half to a full liter’ll do.) Why? Well, aside from the fact that you’ve just gone 8 hours or so sans any aqueous replenishment, it’ll keep you from going all jaw juggernaut on any’ve your meals today. The whole “your body confusing hunger and thirst” thing is legit. My rule’s always to gobble agua before eating any meal. Otherwise, it’s not until I’m my fifth plate into dinner that I realize I might just be thirsty. Bonus if it’s got lemon though, and here’s why:

For the third – and final – reason, there is a little bit of sorcery.

(No, we’re not talking about Hogwarts water – just awesome science and your bod.)

See, the problem is, you probably eat a pretty crappy diet sometimes. That’s fine. Cheat days are a thing. But, when it’s time to do damage control, we gotta think about our poor organs we’ve stressed out – like the liver. A weary liver’s less efficient at fat burning… and lemon’s a lovely way to detox that badboy so it can get back to fat fighting shape in no time.

In other words, lemon water can totally aid in weight loss. But, much like any other weight loss tool, you’ve gotta work with it. If you get a gastric bypass and hit Hardee’s on the way home (along with every day after that), you’re gonna have a hard time getting a hard body. Similarly, if you sip your citrus drink and still swill sugary chunky-ccinos on the daily, those scale numbers probably aren’t gonna budge. Even with consistent gym’ing. But, if you work with it by eating clean and evicting the shiz that’s making you thick while you enjoy your yellow fruit drank, you’ll totally get there.

So, don’t let the lemon haters harsh your weight loss vibe.

Their grapes are just more sour than our water ’cause they dunno how to do it right.
