Can these beats help you beat the weight loss game?

We’ve heard how music can help us lose weight.

“Let the bodies hit the floor… Let the bodies hit the FLOOOOR…”

The high BPM’s get your heart rate racing. It urges you to purge just a bit more sweat on that treadmill. It makes you wanna fit in a few more reps. That deep, booming, beat helps you feel more confident – like some sort’ve walk-on song for your life fight each day. But what about beats that help you beat the weight loss monster… without putting in any immediate gym time?

Enter the realm of binaural beats and isochronic tones…

Not familiar? Well binaural beats are these sounds you listen to through headphones – that ultimately change the way you feel, think, or even… look. What these beats and tones are, essentially, is a series of sounds that get pumped into each of your hearing organs. (That’s the caveat; no bumping this out loud. You have to listen to them with your Dre’s wrapped ’round your dome.) And they operate by lighting up different areas in your think organ. By tweaking the sequence or type of tone, you can change exactly which of those get activated. It may sound kinda sci-fi-ish. But it’s not really, when you think about how our brains surf waves all day long to begin with, depending on what we’re doing, thinking, or stuffing our faces with. Where the beats comes in, is by following the frequency ranges your brain can comprehend. When the tones come in through each ear, your mind’s like, “Oh, that’s a pattern!” And, pretty soon, it falls in line via what researchers’ve called, “frequency following response.” These are states you’re already capable of getting into through your own actions. Problem is, most of us typically aren’t willing without a little inspiration. Case in point – me sitting down to start an article I’ve been putting off, ’cause’ve the force field between me and getting into “flow state”. That state totally exists. It’s through this Narnia portal in my mind, where the waves flow way differently than they do when I’m scrolling through my Insta feed. And that abstract land can be accessed by activating that part of my brain. The idea’s that, whatever state I wanna acquire, I can have my mind surf board plopped on those creativity waves or weight loss minded waves… all by listening to these beats. It’s like your brain’s a pianist who hears a melody (the tone or beat), starts playing it by ear, and you yield the beautiful feeling that follows.

But you might still be wondering – can it really take you from constant cravings to a concave abdomen?

Thinner thighs? Smaller readouts from that malevolent pound-ometer living in your loo? Sure it can change my brain’s waves. But how can it so specifically work different systems in my physique? It’s a valid question. And one argument often centers around placebo effect. If I say that I’m issuing you these beats to help with weight loss, but they’re actually to deter you from cigarettes or a fixation, what happens? Do you quit the cancer sticks? Or lose weight? This’s a valid question. However, what typically ends up transpiring is an answer you might not expect: both. And it’s not necessarily placebo so much as a holistic fix. See, the cravings for bad food choices (often the cause’ve weight gain) and cigarettes alike come from the same place that begs you to assuage the anxiety. They’re both unhealthy palliatives – like a band-aid made of bacteria. But, when given the type of tone that induces a sense of calm, you take your brain from its anxious state to a tranquil one. The result? Not only do you eschew the bad choices, but you reach for the healthier ones. And, before you know it, you’ll be adding aforementioned high BPM songs to your binaural playlist. Why? ’cause you know that popping on some gym shoes is your new shoo-in for those horrible old healthless rituals.

So, if you think you’ve “heard it all”, try hearing some isochronic tones to get toned!
