Why Green Tea Beats the Competition for Weight Loss

We know green tea’s good for health and longevity.

But no one cares about living forever, do they?

We’re just here to get slender and leave behind a fabulous looking cadaver, right?

(Sounds legit.)

Okay, okay. Maybe not. (Just seeing who’s still awake.) But, we do want to stay as healthy as we can for as long as we can. (Hopefully, yes?) Well, fortunately for us all, the two go healthy hand in hand when it comes to green tea. See, I always wondered why this emerald beverage was so heavily championed as a fat blasting go-to. And, after geeking out with a recent read over at Barnes ‘n Noble, I now realize why. It all boils down to a compound called Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which is found in green tea. And what it does is two crucial things with respect to weight loss.

The first is that is regulates the expression of genes that manage your fat. Yes, I know, your eyes likely glazed over just reading that. So, instead, let’s close them (metaphorically, obvi, so you can still read) and imagine something. I want you to imagine being able to eat something that gives you the Hogwarts level sorcererous powers of toggling down your body’s fat production. (Sans the side effects all those other pills that promise the same come with.) And, as if that’s not magical enough, this good stuff also ups the activity of a coactivator that oxidizes fatty acids (AKA busting up the blubber you already have). Now, that may all sound like nerd speak. But, essentially, what it means is that EGCG fights fat from both sides – both at the prevention level and the breakdown level.

(Popeye’s can of green can’t match the green this cup’s rockin’)

Okay, okay. But, if you’ve read some studies, you may be saying, “They haven’t proven EGCG is the cause (versus the caffeine component), so why drink green tea? Why not just chug coffee?” Fair inquiry. However, if you’ve ever compared he two, you may have noticed that the tea offers a light elevation in energy as well as a clarity (versus that cracky high you get off coffee). What’s more, you’re not likely to get fat from as much sugar when you drink tea. The most you’ll dress up your herbal cup is with a dash of sweetness, right? Can you say the same for your jade Mermaid and her mochas? (#ShoutoutStarbucks) A grande macchiato (or even your low fat, high sugar, creamer filled mug from home), contrarily, features a triple diabetes special with heaps of saccharine badness that get stored as fat, drops your energy, and dips that blood glucose causing an unparalleled hanger by the time you leave work or the gym – if you even make it there. (Ever find 5 P.M. you laughing at 5 A.M. you’s grandiose plans to hit the treadmill after work?) And this is all great news, too. Why? Because it means that you don’t have to waste your hard earned income on overpriced coffee or all those B.S. skinny teas we keep seeing in our IG ads. The legit weight loss tea’s on your local grocery store’s shelf at a fraction of the price.

So, stop letting fattening coffee spike your EKG; slenderize with EGCG via green tea instead!
