In a Christmas coma? Try this yoga flow to get back on track

December 29, 2017 Ashley 0 Comments

At last, the holidays are almost over.

For some that’s depressing.

For others, a cleansing change is welcome. We’re ready for more yoga posing and less sofa posing.

(Ready to B rad again and ditch the Pitt of Se7en level sloth?)

Sure, overstuffing our tummies and chugging two buck chuck to handle family (and general life pain) is nice – occasionally. (If you’re into that sort’ve thing.) But, much like Miss Jolie sucked the loveliness out’ve Mr. Pitt for years, the Christmas regimen’s notorious for doing exactly that. And, if you’re like me and moderation’s not your strong point when it comes to delicious, not-good-for-you vices, you might be feeling the negative effects of it already. And you might be ready for that “New Year” resolution sooner rather than later.

But, whether you’re reading this pre-NYE or mid-summer, it’s no matter.

Falling off general wellness wagon can happen any time’ve year. It might be that the December confections dismembered your fitness regimen. It might be a Hawaii holiday where you drank your calories ’til the children at the pool mistook you for a massive orka floatie. The reason’s irrelevant. Either way, it’s time to toggle on the lights and shout closing time to toxins and processed foods that’ve been partying in your body. The problem? It’s tough. I mean, where do you start when the starchy carbs aren’t moving along – but weighing you down? How do you get the inspo to hit the gym when your system’s still feeling the pain of that champagne bender? No worries. That’s why I’m here. ’cause today, I’m gonna share a fabulous yoga sequence with you; one that’ll push out the poisons and (*insert soft serve chocolate ice cream emoji that’s not really soft serve chocolate ice cream at all, here*) alike. From nixing toxins and upping oxygen to helping peristalsis and quelling carbon dioxide, this sequence’s a dream come true if you need a gentle segue back into health. (And restoring yourself the way now-hot-again Brad has managed to, after ditching the wicked witch starlet siren.)

The first pose?

Wide legged forward bend:

With your cranium dangling below your heart, you improve your circulation.

This allows agua to flush out those lymph nodes – and push all that holiday poison out with it.

That’s where the next pose, “revolved chair” proves helpful:

With all those toxins out’ve your lymph nodes, now we’ve gotta get rid of ’em.

This pose is said to “tone” your digestive system and kidneys so the bad stuff’ll bounce out your body temple

Which is why, afterward, we’ll need this “Half Lord” pose:

Why?

Well, after the digestive system and kidneys do their job, we all know how our “leftovers” leave.

But the bummer’s when our bums don’t get rid of everything.

This pose aids in eliminating more thoroughly so that we can feel lighter and more likely to wanna work out.

And, once we do, this pose’ll come in handy:

(Summer sunshine and lovely locale not included)

When we hit the gym, what are we doing a lot of? Yep. Breathing.

By opening the thorax (from the slumped over, lazy, Christmas couch position), it opens those lungs, too.

When that happens, we become more efficient at breathing in a way that supports our sweaty endeavors.

But what’s the wire that strings all these beautiful bulbs together, so that they might light up our lives? And lead us back to weight loss and wellness goals? The breath. The very first thing they’ll teach you in any yoga class is that the breath takes precedence. If you forget everything else, remember to take deep, cleansing inhalations, followed by full exhalations. And do it all the time. This rhythm should be the drumbeat to the entire song that is your yoga sequence – dispelling tension, welcoming serenity, and letting us get back into the bodies we’ve been abusing with inimical fixes for a bit too long.

So, now that our insides are all peacefully cleaned, let’s go get the outside filthy at the gym.

And save the gluttony and sloth for next holiday.

(“Namaste on track this time…”)
