How To Lose Both Weight And Years

Let’s face it.

While there are a great many non-vain reasons to wanna lose weight, many of us just wanna look good. And don’t hate on us ’cause of that. (Or do. We don’t care.) Because, while we do care about health, we’re not putting forth the effort just to have zest. Or just inspire others. That’s all nice. It’s super awesome. We love it. But what’s also really nice is to see the aesthetic results of all your self deprivation, dreaded early treadmill mornings, and late night lifting sessions too. Let’s not pretend we don’t want that as well. And, fortunately, most of us win at that when we lose weight. But, especially as we get along in years, there’s one thing we can’t work out so easily: our skin – our signs of aging.

Or… Can we?

Apparently, experts have looked into this extensively, seeking out the most “youthing” activities you can do. And how’d they test that out? By swabbing subjects for the proliferation of mitochondria. See, mitochondria is the “powerhouse” of the cell. It helps ultimately lead to more collagen and fiber in your skin – which, in turn, keeps you younger. So, the idea’s that – the more of these badboys there are around – the more likely it is that you’re making all those youthful components that keep your skin supple and soft.

And you wanna know what the results were? Fascinating, that’s what. Because it’s the same sort’ve formula they suggest for any well rounded weight loss plan: cross training. Those performing HIIT (high intensity interval training) for at least three times a week amplified their output of mitochondria. And, as with all HIIT, subjects didn’t even need to reach a full ten minutes per sesh to reap the rewards. They just bordered their hardcore workouts with less intense, steady cardio peppered through the rest of the week – like cycling. In fact, that was the second mitochondria making workout; swabbed cyclers who did their spinning for half an hour or more, just a couple times a week, showed signs of significantly increased skin regeneration – both on the dermal under and outer layers. And, of course, what would weight loss be without weight lifting between spin and HIIT days? Indeed, pumping iron’s just another example of a twofer that’ll drop both weight and decades (or years – if you’re smart and starting early). In one study, within four months, mitochondria activity in lifters was up by 30 percent compared to the control group.

Then, of course, just make sure you’re doing the obvious alongside all this:

Drink more water while lowering your salt, sunlight, stress, and sauvignon.

(Or martinis… Although she does makes it look super cool. And fun.)

So, if weight loss wasn’t enough to motivate you, let the potentially youthful you be your new inspo.

Nix both inches and wrinkles with cross training!
