Can This Weight Loss Popcorn Help You Stop Popping Scale Springs?

Sure, we’ve already learned how to fit-ify our fav Friday snack.

Indeed, there are plenty of ways to make popcorn healthy. Boot the butter. Stow the salt. Add a heap of nutritional yeast to give it a cheesy and tasty flavor, brimming with B vitamins. Add spices and herbs to season it up. But cutting the cals on our formerly fattening fave isn’t enough, is it? I mean, it’s 2018. We can do better than “not unhealthy”. (Am I right, girls?) We can do hella healthy. And that’s, apparently, what the latest trending health snack, Vitapop Popcorn, promises. This treat features not only 10 grams of protein and a mere 150 calories per serving; but it’s also got a whopping 15 vitamins (A, B1, B2, B6, B12, C, D, E, K, niacin, biotin, folic acid, iron, calcium, magnesium, zinc,- *pauses to gasp/catch breath*-… and potassium). Plus, you can get your daily serving of all’ve those things in one bag.

Caveats?

I have a few, of course. Unless you’re sponsoring me (AKA giving me lots of money to lie) to push your product, I’m coming for your flaws and putting ’em on blast. But it’s okay. I’ll go slow. We’ll start easy. In fact, the first one isn’t even all that bad. It actually can be a plus, depending on which way you look at it. And that’s just the fact that this isn’t exactly a binge-able food. If you’re trying to find something that’ll keep you from reaching for seconds, it’s a win. So there is that. But if you’re looking forward to having a massive bowl’ve popcorn with bae, this might not be the optimal option. Not only would ya OD on your micronutrients, but it’s kinda cost prohibitive.

(More likely you’ll just be making really expensive pee, but still…)

Which leads me to issue two: the cost.

At $13.25, you’d be better off just buying these vitamins separately and doling them out for each day of the week in one of those massive, geriatric, calendar-shaped pill caddies. You’ll get more bang for your buck and fewer cals out’ve it. I mean, seriously. What you’re paying for, in the end, is to threaten yourself into moderation because another bag means a near $30 meal, as well as too much of what you could’ve already gotten in a calorie free capsule this morning before your porridge. And then, there’s the final problem. See, there’s a reason most people take vitamins individually. And that’s because some of them don’t play nicely with each other. For example, calcium and iron (both in Vitapop) don’t like to share the spotlight. Sure, both are things you need. But you also need to take them separately, since calcium inhibits iron from being assimilated by your body. So, I wouldn’t exactly rely on this snack for your iron requirements.

In short, it’s a nice idea. And, to be fair, placebo effects work well for some people. They think they’re eating something healthy, so they end up making healthy choices in other areas of their lives as well. So, if you wanna convince yourself Vitapop will cancel out your nibbling sins somehow, maybe try a bag of this stuff next movie night. No judgment. I can totally appreciate the need to waste money before coming to your senses. I’ve been there. But, if you wanna skip straight to the obvious, more frugal answer and truly win at weight loss, then take it back to basics. Enjoy your usual full pot of popcorn. Simply DIY skinnify those exploded corn kernels the OG way, keep your system on fleek via the vitamin shelf of the pantry, and enjoy your weekend treat sans breaking the bank.
