Why You Should Do A Wellness Retreat For Weight Loss

So summer hasn’t gone exactly as planned.

Your choo choo train of a diet with its paleo, keto, and Mediterranean cars finally culminated in a caboose of cupcakes and croissants, all washed down with cherry cola. That gym membership’s as dusty as the workout leggings you bought months ago. (Still tagged and in the bag). And why? Because, between work, school, kids, or whatever you’ve got going on right now, you just haven’t had it in you to take care of you. You haven’t even taken a break to get away.

So… maybe you should.

With a wellness retreat.

(Gotta love how the ads for these places always show folks who don’t *need* to lose any weight…)

The nice thing about taking a little health getaway is that it offers a small pocket, away from the familiar routine, in which we can heal our habits. And it doesn’t hafta be anywhere exotic, either. Sure, you can escape somewhere with beautiful views. But other destinations just allow a place where you can simply recalibrate in nature nearby. Wherever you go, the focus is all on your health, getting back in touch with what you need, and implementing the habits that aid in weight loss, wellness, and health overall. And why pay for any’ve this? Why leave home? A few reasons, actually. The first is that a professional can help us sometimes see what we ourselves cannot. (Mostly ’cause we’re too attached to our habits and lack perspective the change them.) The second reason’s a piggyback to that: being around others enduring something similar. A professional may have great advice. But it’s spending time with reflections of ourselves that truly incurs change. Other members of the retreat’ll be at all sorts of different stages on their weight loss and wellness journeys. Seeing people similar to you helps you feel less alone. Meanwhile, seeing others who’ve been where you are, came to the retreat, and continue to lose weight is inspirational. And inspiration motivates change in a way no amount of the soundest logic from the most well read expert can.

And, finally, the third reason is context. Ever have trouble focusing in your home with all the clutter and reminders of ominous tasks that lay ahead? Getting away from all those associations allows us to breathe. In the absence of deadlines, meetings, and dirty dishes, change is heaps easier to accomplish. Imagine your whole day being about restoring your soul and body. No peripheral concerns. In no time, all the little alterations that once seemed daunting (eating healthy or working out) become not only not a chore; they become things you look forward to doing because you’ve given yourself the time and space away from energy draining sources to enjoy the results that come from doing them.

Now, there is a caveat. It’s admittedly easier to pick up new and healthy habits when we’re out’ve our every day context and amongst positive influences that are consistent with the direction in which we wanna head. Health is simple when that’s our sole focus. It’s easier when we’re in some lovely, exotic place. It comes naturally when we don’t have any triggering events (like work or other stressors) inspiring dietary demise and motivational lethargy. That’s why the super important thing is to make a retreat not just a getaway, but a research effort spent envisaging how this is all gonna apply when you get back home. It’s not just an escape from reality (like other holidays). And while that might sound like a buzzkill, it’s totally not. By focusing on how to implement these shiny new changes into your everyday, you don’t have to dread going back home. Instead, you can return feeling empowered, knowing you now know how to revamp your reality and become the person you’ve always wanted to be. Every day. Regardless of obstacles. Not just when the environment is friendly and free of challenge.

So, if you went a little off course this summer, spend the end getting it back.

That way you can spend every season enjoying the weight and wellness goals you’ve always wanted.
