How collagen can aid with weight loss

With summer coming, a lot’ve us just want the body trifecta for ourselves:

Great health, weight loss, and great skin when we’re showing off said weight loss.

Lucky for us the latest thing trending might just be the answer:

Collagen.

That’s right. The benefits of collagen are many, and weight loss is definitely amongst them. How? Well, first, the stuff’s gut friendly. But upping the number of good bacteria in your gut, you stand to take down the pounds when the amicable bacteria take up residence in your belly. But, also, collagen’s said to be excellent for your joints and and bone health. And you know what that all means? It means better (and stronger) workouts so that you can both go longer and build more muscle – both vital for weight loss.

Now, if you’ve read my health articles before, you’ve probably gotten a pretty consistent takeaway: eat clean and train mean to get a sick looking, healthy body. So, it might come as a surprise that I’d be touting adding collagen to your list. But it shouldn’t. Why? Because, sure, you can buy any number of collagen-beauty-chew-elite-drinks.

But supplements are only one way to get this magic bullet up in your body. By upping your vitamin C intake, for example, you stand to raise your collagen levels as well. And the wonderful thing? You can find ‘em all in the produce aisle, just waiting to infuse you with beautiful skin and a skinnier figure for summer. Example? Red veggies like peppers, beets, and tomatoes (okay, technically a fruit, but if it makes the paste on your Papa John’s, I don’t wanna hear anymore pineapple pizza hate) are a great start. Why? The lycopene in ‘em boosts collagen while blocking potential pre-cancerous sun funkiness on your skin. Then, pop on over to Popeye’s favorite (no, not actual Popeye’s fast food… Popeye the cartoon) and get some spinach in ya. Dark leafy greens are chock full of the stuff that blocks the collagen breakdown enzymes. They’ve also got compounds to act like armor against free radicals – which also battle collagen. But vitamin C can’t do it alone. It needs its sidekick, vitamin A, to smite the foes of fantastic skin and weight loss – which we can find in the delicious duo of sweet potatoes and carrots. (Okay, maybe not together.) While the other stuff prevents damage, this stuff helps restore and regenerate the inevitable damage we do get.

(“Bring it, solar foe! Try and smite me through my tomater-tater chainmail!”*
*Results may vary.)

So, if you’re craving weight loss and youthful looking skin this summer, don’t wait!

Answer collagen’s call from your local produce aisle.
